As Ubuntu does not 'opt-in' to the beta ISO releases of Artful Aardvark (17.10) I thought it would be interesting to respin the latest daily release (10th September) together with the rolling 'unstable' kernel of v4.13.0-9 and produce ISOs for both Atom-based and Apollo-based mini PCs to see what the current progress is.
The ISOs can be
- Atom (-i artful-desktop-amd64.iso --rolling-unstable --atom)
- Apollo (-i artful-desktop-amd64.iso --rolling-unstable --apollo)
(ISOs removed due to Lenovo BIOS issues)Whilst the ISOs target specific Intel architectures to ensure everything works they should also work on any Intel devices.
Anyone wanting to spin their own version can download the latest Ubuntu daily ISO from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/daily-live and respin using my 'isorespin.sh' script using the options above.
Please donate if you find the ISOs or script useful using the following link http://goo.gl/nXWSGf.

hello I have Jumper Ezbook 3 pro and after install rEFIned i can boot Manjaro and Your's iso :) ... but i have a problem with treackpad in this laptop . In manajro and ubuntu trackpad don't work :( i must use the mouse .
Hello
i'm on cube iwork12
I have disconnections every 10 seconds
lubuntu not too bad, unity is a real catastrophe
on my iwork12 cube
the wifi ok
bluetooth ok
the touch ok
no sound, but it is not far, we see the cursor tremble when the sound passes.
for the rotation of screen, it is necessary to parametrer it, it goes into portrait mode when it is in landscape mode, for what is missing most is the sound.
eric
It is no longer 'Unity' but 'GNOME' as they replaced the desktop ... see 'https://insights.ubuntu.com/2017/04/05/growing-ubuntu-for-cloud-and-iot-rather-than-phone-and-convergence' for the rationale.
Does the 'iwork 12' use the ES8316 audio codec?
If so look at 'https://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com.au/2017/07/sixth-look-at-ubuntu-1710-julyshakedown.html?showComment=1500989315496#c558034347396491039' and see if this fixes the sound. First make sure the 'snd-soc-sst-byt-cht-es8316' module is loaded otherwise do a 'modprobe' on it. Then take a look at 'comment 78' in the referenced post and work from there.
There is a regression for wifi using the AP6255 chip in the v4.13 kernel for which I have upstreamed a patch which is queued to be included in the v4.13.2 kernel. You can then upgrade to the v4.13.2 kernel when it is released next week or wait until the Ubuntu 'unstable' gets rebased to v4.13.2 and then upgrade the rolling 'unstable' kernel to whatever that kernel becomes.
For sound as I don't have this device I've not got any immediate suggestions but the 'bytcr_rt5651 bytcr_rt5651: ASoC: CODEC DAI rt5651-aif1 not registered' would be an interesting starting point.
on my iwork12 cube this is what i have as a sound controller
00: 02.0 VGA compatible controller: Atom / Celeron / Pentium Processor x5-E8000 / J3xxx / N3xxx PCI Configuration Registers (rev 22)
and is there a way to adjust the rotation of the screen
thank you
eric
I install your iso in my winbook tw802 tablet. The sound doesn't work. Gnome is very slow, i put plasma, the system works ok, but the sound still down.
Thanks a lot for your work
Thanks for your work.
I've tested it -through USB pen- on "Chiwu HiBook Pro" tablet/computer. WIFI is OK, although Touchscreen is not working.
Any solution?
Thanks.

Here more information about my tablet:
> CPU: Intel Atom x5-Z8350 (Cherry Trail)

Hello, I have a Chuwi lapbook 15.6 with z8300. I installed ubuntu succesfully, downloading it from uphere (from the atom download link). I have mousepad, brightness control, wifi, working out of the box but audio doesn't work and I have no idea how to try to fix it (haven't installed drivers on linux ever before). But I just need the audio to have a perfectly working ubuntu pc.
With the command "aplay -l" it shows me 2 devices:
HdmiLpeAudio [Intel HDMI/DP LPE Audio]
and bytcrrt5651.
But if i go to audio setting it says I have no output devices there.
Do you think I can solve this problem? It would be nice if you could help me, and I will certanely donate as sign of gratitude.
In any case any answer will be very appreciated
Thanks
Is this ISO able to be used on a Intel Compute Stick STK1A32SC?
The reason I'm asking this is because I want to update the OS on my device and want to find out before I try.
hello Ian, thankyou for you great job ! sorry, my english is not so good ... so ... i'll try to explain my problem :
After downloading this iso :
linuxium-atom-v4.13.0-9-ubuntu-17.10-10SEP17-desktop-amd64.iso
putting on my usbkey with Etcher. no problem.
my machine is that :
https://www.lesnumeriques.com/ordinateur-portable/thomson-neo-p38411/test.html
so what is the problem :
1) your distro boot and works well on usblive
2) the install is fine, no problems
3) at reboot, I can see the 17.10 and launch it ... BUT .... every +-10 seconds the system hibernates or turns on "sleep" ...
can you help me ? thanks again ! :-)
Hi,
I'm using version 7.3.3 - and run the script as root on a xenial/16.04.3 machine.
Are these permission errors normal ? I interrupted the ISO creation because of them

Use the 'Atom' ISO for best results.
Ubuntu 17.10 is still under development so if there are issues it is always best to see if they occur on a released version of Ubuntu using the latest Ubuntu kernel from Canonical.
I've not looked at 'Voyager' so I can't advise whether your changes are sufficient nor what the implications of the errors are.
hey! thanks for your response.
but, how it is possible that on usblive, your distro works fine ?
where can I found other releases that works for Intel Atom Z3735F ?
thanks for your help :-)
Hi, I own a Odys Trendbook 14. It has a Intel Atom z3735f. I got ubuntu working on it but it gives me troubles with the sound. It doesn't work at all. It has a Intel SST Audio Device (WDM). How can i get it work?
Hello.
I've tried this atom iso in my Baytrail tablets. I found the same issues as the ones I've found in the last isos. BT does not work and neither Sound. It's very weird because latest 16.04 isos with older kernels (4.12) worked great.
Does anybody found this issues? sound is rt5640 and modules seems to be loaded, and BT is rtl8723bs (wifi chip)
Try respining the official Ubuntu 16.04.3 ISO with the v4.13.3 kernel and see if the problem still exists (e.g. '-i -k v4.13.3 --atom').
Post your 'isorespin.log' and the 'dmesg' after booting from running the respun ISO.
For sound make sure you select the audio output from sound controls in case it is defaulting to something different to you expect. For wifi and/or bluetooth try restarting the service using 'systemctl' as sometimes it doesn't load properly using a LiveUSB.
Thanks Linuxium, regarding sound is the first I tried, but no output device detected.
Same problem here, no output device found.
This is the only thing stopping me from using linux on the tablet.
I would love to see some Lubuntu version as well, as I cant manage use isorespin.sh to create an .ISO and my tablet is really low end :(
I used the ISO you created. Should I create one by myself using isorespin.sh?
Thanks!
Hi Linuxium, I tried to respin the iso and than I installed it in my Chuwi HI10 Pro.
I see that sound doesn't works (such us 17.04 but in 17.10 soundcard doesn't appear in Audio Settings) and is it impossible to rotate the screen ^^".
I tried to use xrandr but it say me that it is impossible to change screen configuration. I have this problem only after installation.
Hello,
On first soory for english language, I'm not the best.
I have an archos 140 cesium, I install the last version of your ubuntu os based on 17.10 for atom (I have a Z3735f) but I have not bluethooth or HDMI for the sound. I know, it's not possible to have the sound on the computer with the atom but is it possible with hdmi on tv screen or with bluethooth on Loud speaker. Thanks for you reponse and thanks for your work

Some knows, or was able, to run any linux distribution on the Jumper EZBook 2?
I've just bought one and as i saw until today there isn't linux support for this notebook.
If someone could help me.
You could respin an Ubuntu ISO with the '--atom' and '-u' options to get the latest kernel to see if it helps.
Why not use an Ubuntu VM on a different machine to respin an Lubuntu ISO?
I'd try a latest release of 17.10 then just in case something has gone amiss in the development cycle.
If you are happy to experiment I'd try a latest release of 17.10 then just in case something has gone amiss in the development cycle otherwise I'd stick to respinning official releases as they should be more stable.
Try respinning an Ubuntu 17.04 ISO with '-u' and '--atom' options to see if this helps.
As a starting post respin an Ubuntu 17.04 ISO with '-u' and '--atom' options and write the respun ISO to a USB and boot from it. Check my documentation on 'https://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com.au/2017/06/customizing-ubuntu-isos-documentation.html' for help in addressing any wifi, bluetooth, audio, freezing, brightness, touchscreen and rotational issues. Also check Google for other's progress in getting Linux to work on the Jumper EZBook 2.
The link of your release is that of this post (atom)?
I'm uploading a new 17.10 ISO at the moment which you could try when it finally finishes probably in another couple of hours!
Ok, thanks
It may be worth trying the Ubuntu 17.10 Beta 2 ISO I've just uploaded (see 'http://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com.au/2017/09/ubuntu-1710-beta-2-releases-for-intel.html') in case it helps.
I found the answer, I install pulsaudio and with I have different choice for the sound. for me its ok
thanks
Good to hear.
Hi,
How do you boot the ubuntu from usb oder sdcard?
Thanks
Chris
It depends on device and can be a bit fiddly to set up and maintain for some people.
Al Slan, is your box already working? if not, give linuxiums linuxium-persistence-v4.12-rc6-artful-desktop-amd64.iso (http://linuxiumcomau.blogspot.com/2017/06/third-look-at-ubuntu-1710-spicing-up.html) a try. i am working on a bqeel Z83 box 2 gb. it is very similar to yours. maybe linuxium can give you the link to the iso. wifi and sound out of the box. after installing, i had to make the changes linuxium suggested for broken sound, that's all. i am now on an actual kernel 4.13.0-21 ....
many thanks to linuxium!
I've removed all the old links to ISOs given that the 'Lenovo BIOS' issue and the 'Meltdown/Spectre' vulnerabilities would be present. I may upload new ISOs in the future to demonstrate latest development etc..
