Replacing Windows with Ubuntu (i.e. single boot)

Follow the steps in my guide Installing Ubuntu along side Windows (i.e. dual boot) up to the 'Installation type' screen:

On that screen this time select 'Erase disk and install Ubuntu' and continue by clicking 'Install Now'.

These are fantastic guides. Thanks for taking the time to write them. Do you have any objections to me posting links to them in various places to reach more new users? I will be sure to give you the credit, and post your donation link.

Hello. Thank you for sharing your great work!

I'm trying to install your Atom ISO on a Compaq Mini CQ10-405DX netbook. I used UNetbootin to create a bootable USB and the installation process appears to have been successful in that I received a pop-up @ the end of the process stating that the system needed to be rebooted.

Instead of rebooting, I shutdown the netbook because I could not figure out how to safely eject the USB so that the netbook would boot from the hard drive on reboot, instead of the USB drive.

Unfortunately, the OS freezes while on the orange screen with the name Ubuntu at the center. The netbook won't respond to CTRL + ALT + DELETE or ESC or if I close the cover for 10 seconds and reopen it. Only option is to hold down the power button to shutdown.

I try to power up again and the same thing happens. I then shutdown again by holding down power button, insert the USB and select Try Ubuntu without Installing and everything works fine.

Any insight on what the issue might be? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Try installing Ubuntu 18.04.1 (see http://linuxminipcs.com/ for the ISO) and see if the problem persists.
